I'm The Winner

This past weekend was definitely one of the busiest ones I've had in a while. However, it was also one of my favorites. On Sunday, I attended the Philofaxy meetup at the Galleria in Dallas and won this lovely Filofax in a drawing they had. As soon as they called my name I jumped up and down like the dork that I am. It was an exciting day.

Side Note: A HUGE thank you to Paradise Pens for holding this drawing. You guys are my favorite.

I used to have the pink Original in personal size but sold it long ago. It's been one of my regrets since then, so lately I had been on the hunt for either a pink or orange Original.

The features are the same as all others: Two pen loops, two credit card slots, one note pad in the back, and two large pockets for extra notes, cash, or stationery items.

The clasp is my favorite. The white stitching on the bright orange binder is perfect!

It didn't take long for me to set up the Original. I'm still saving for my husbands birthday gift so it's amazing to be blessed with something I've been looking for during these penny saving times!

Hazel Berry Paper on Etsy

Following Jillian Dolberry on Instagram has been the best decision made lately. No exaggeration. This girl had a 50% off coupon code for her Etsy shop and the excitement was not one that could be contained. Her work is beautiful! Jillian was able to customize a print with a favorite verse that has been engraved on my heart since day one of knowing Christ.

Shipping was satisfactory + the fun labels were absolutely the reason this package was not bent (like all the others normally received.)

The shop is called Hazel Berry Paper. Mostly, the site has prints and notepads for sell among a few other items.

The note was a sweet touch. The way a person puts together a package says a great deal about the heart and soul that is put into their business. Such is the reason many would rather purchase from a small online shop/store rather than the large corporate places like Target or Michael's. The 'extras' have a way of brightening up someones day!

These little scraps are usually things kept forever. A bit dorky, but, whatever.

That verse has had such a meaning in life. There was a season in where the loneliness and hurt in my heart became unbearable. Depression set in and it was difficult finding reasons to move forward. Surely, God's plans for my life were so great even then my little mind would not have been able to imagine the blessings of today. Through that long, hard period.. after being knocked down again and again, my faith in God grew stronger. My passion and longing to live out a life for him, loving him with all that I had, was bigger than ever before.

This verse, everyday, reminded me that as long as I continued to seek Him and ask Him to come into my heart, nothing else mattered. Today, I know my Father in Heaven and love Him with all that I have. Daily, I study his word for wisdom and guidance and rely on Him, and only Him, for true happiness and love.

I have found my loving, merciful God. My heart is whole once again.

Pink Domino

This little pink planner has been incredibly difficult to find. I've had pink ring agendas before (Filofax brand) but this was the most coveted. To bad they had been discontinued and anyone who had one never dreamed of selling. Luckily, one person was willing to and I'm forever grateful.. especially since I messaged her a thousand times as soon as this person posted the Filofax for sale. It is called the Domino Filofax in pink.

Shipping wasn't long so it was easy to keep myself distracted until it arrived. I began to use it right away.

The pink dashboard is from Paper Addict. The pen is a Coleto pen sent to me by a friend.

As all Dominos, there are 5 credit card slots on the left side as well as a long pocket that is great for cash or any other extra pieces of paper.

It also has the elastic pen loop. So far it has taken skinny and fat pens perfectly!

My tabs are as follows: Misc, Phone, Diary, Diary, Notes. There aren't many but it's exactly what I need.

The first diary section has a list of things I want to buy. I should of called it my wish list but oh well.

My notes section is perfect to put all of my favorite things in one place. So many ask me why I don't just buy a regular planner from Target or Walmart. They are great, but most don't have a notes section and if they do they are only but a few pages, pages I cannot customize to my liking. With my Filofax, I am able to keep up with EVERYTHING.

Plus, I can also have this. My cards plus lovely bits and pieces I hate to throw away. I'm a bit of a hoarder that way. For now, I am satisfied. Mainly because I have no choice. My husband's birthday is next month and I am saving every penny possible. Let's see how I do.

"You cannot separate fools from their foolishness, even though you grind them like grain with mortar and pestle" Proverbs 27:22

Right before I began with my bible study I received some upsetting news. Well, more annoying than upsetting. It made me roll my eyes and say "NOOOOO." It's hard for me to accept what I believe are the worst choices made by those I love. I want to strangle them and force them to do what I believe is right (I used to try to.. so much that those I love decided not to confide in me anymore). That is definitely the wrong way to do things.

Today I take another approach. I pray. I pray so much, every single day, and leave my worries at His feet. You see, I can scream and curse at the top of my lungs but those who are foolish will not listen. I'm not trying to call anyone foolish, but there are foolish people in the world who simply do not have the strength to leave their foolishness behind. I used to be one of them. It was my prayer and 1,000 prayers from others that got me through it. Eventually, God grabbed my attention and finally I said "Okay, no more."

When I became upset, God helped me see that it was my own lack of trust that was most upsetting to HIM. He coems through again and again for me and for those that I love. There is no need to be disappointed. In His timing, all will make sense. Until then I will be patient, I will trust in Him, I will stay in His word, and I will continue to pray with all that I have.

The Best Organizing Tool

This past semester was by far the hardest. Maybe because Kayleigh is a little older and sleeping much less, or it could be the fact that we had to move and the changes were overwhelming, or for other personal reasons. Whatever it was, it kicked my butt. Yet even on the most busiest days, there was peace in my mind. Of course, because of Jesus. Nothing accomplished would be possible without my Savior. Another reason was because of this amazing planning tool. The Day Designer by Whitney English.

It's beautiful, but the fact is that this planner was not made for a full time employee going to school part time while maintaining a household. This lovely agenda is for the Entrepreneurs. Those who are their own bosses (someone I am not and might not ever be.) The only section utilized is the diary section. The rest, even the month at a glance is of no use to me which makes me sad. Those who own a business (or plan to) should really look into this organizer. It is a wonderful investment.

For 2015 Whitney should have these planners in a smaller size (look at Etsy shop for exact size) and the anticipation is killing me. The only way this thing could be more perfect is if it was small enough to take everywhere .. if my bag was not already heavy enough.

But like I always say, life is short. Carry what you love.

Easter 2014

(that tie was not really a part of my outfit)
Sunday morning I volunteered to help with the children during service, but from I heard from my little family it was a great morning at Abundant Life Church. Afterward, my siblings in law, Timothy, and my little rascal had Easter lunch at Saltgrass. It was lovely. We haven't done it in a while. Later that day we all took a much needed three hour nap (it was beautiful I tell you!) and then headed to my families Easter egg hunt. While we were there we also celebrated my uncles birthday. That means fajitas + candy. What else could you possibly ask for?!

It was a great, long day. I loved it.

Random/Quick Date

My favorite trait about my husband is his random, spur of the moment ideas. His sister picked up our baby from daycare and so he thought it would be a good time for a small date night. I got so excited that I completely forgot we had young adult service that night! We had a great time grabbing a bite to eat (mm Babes) and walking around down town Carrollton. Most of the town was closed by the time we arrived but the most important stores we opened.

I loved how simple + effective this sign was!

I'm determined to come back for these.

This candy store was FULL of amazing candy, candy I either have not seen in years or have never heard of at all. It was magical.

I'm incredibly grateful for my husband. We were best friends way before we (I) even thought about dating and I love the fact that nothing has changed.

Serving God

“You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.”  Galatians 5:13

Lately, I've been meditating on ways to serve God. We are called to serve him faithfully and with all of our hearts. How? How do we serve our creator, our Father in Heaven, the Lord of Lords and King of Kings? I've prayed for guidance and I’d love to share what I have found so far.

Note: I do not have all the answers (but who does really?!) however, it’s been placed on my heart to share His word and that is what I’ll do. Additional ways to serve are welcomed.

1.       Serve God through your family.
Simple. Right? You will think the same as you read along. Give yourself to your family and serve them with a heart full of love. It’s the best way to serve God.

2.       Give tithes & offerings.
There are many thoughts on tithing, but almost everyone will agree that serving a brother or sister who hurts financially is important. We are called to help the helpless.

“Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it” Proverbs 3:27

3.       Volunteer in your community.
We often scare ourselves out of duties by thinking up imaginary evils (excuses). Keep an eye out on your church bulletin for volunteer work. A simple Google search will pull up many volunteer opportunities to sign up for.

4.       Donate Clothing + other goods.
Hello Goodwill! (And please donate things you would wear and use yourself)

5.       Be a friend!
Because who doesn't love and need a good friend?!

6.       Serve children.
Jesus Christ loves children and so should we. I read a quote once that said “Be the person you needed when you were younger.” I could not have said it better myself.

7.       Mourn with those that mourn.
Visit AND listen to those who are suffering. Once, I had a friend that I would call each time I cried over an ex-boyfriend (so I wouldn't embarrassingly call him begging and crying.) At the time, this was my biggest heartbreak and I was so grateful to have that friend be there and listen (although most of the time I cried more than I talked.)

8.       Share your talents.
“But I have no talents.”

A lie straight from the enemy. Maybe you cannot dance, sing, act, or talk in front of a large crowd but are you patient? If so, care for the little rascals during Sunday school. Are you organized? Then maybe organize some events for your church or connect group.

Everyone has at least one talent. Pray that God will reveal it to you and that those skills may be developed and improved.

9.       Simple act of kindness.
My favorite! These can help either start someone’s day off on a good note or cheer up a person who’s had a long, hard day.

Some examples:
  •     Paying for someone’s food
  •     Giving up your seat in the bus
  •     Returning a lost item

There are thousands of ways to serve God and not all ways are risky or time consuming. Don’t believe the lie that says if you are not traveling or singing in the church choir you are doing nothing. Love people. Love people the way our maker loves people. Love is all that is needed.

“The greatest among you will be your servant” Mathew 23:11

Date Nights With The Mister

Love, was made for me and you.

One of my favorite dates in a while. Walking through the old part of town, window shopping because for some odd reason antique shops are expensive, eating at a loud restaurant, laying down under the cloudy sky, and goofing around with this handsome fella. Life has never been so sweet.

No Better Order

Recently, I took up three courses at my community college instead of the normal two I take on each semester. What a horrible idea. With a full time job and my many other responsibilities it was almost impossible to keep up with the school work. Yesterday, I decided it was time to say "I cannot do it all." I will be withdrawing from one of my classes and retaking it next semester. The thought of giving up did not sit well with me. However, it was a great reminder that I truly cannot do everything on my own. Lesson learned. I am thankful to have a God who knows that about me and takes me back again and again after I try to take control. My priorities are reset to God, family, work, and school. There is no better order.

Looking Back

My favorite thing about having a Filofax (or ring binder) is being able to document little things like this. I started this page when I thought about going through the process of fixing my teeth. On the back there are steps I had to take to even have a orthodontist consider dealing with my messed up mouth. It was hard and I prayed so much that God would make it possible and as always, He was faithful.

Today I can smile without worrying about my gaps or feeling self-conscious. It's a beautiful feeling and I'm happy to be able to look back on it and see what all had to be done for me to feel this way. It's also a great reminder of how much money, time, and energy I spent which is a great dedication boost when it comes to wearing my retainers. Those suckers are the worst.

Happy mail is the best type of mail. There's just something about a package scribbled & labeled in a language you cannot read.

Thank you Saori, you have the sweetest heart.

Till next time lovelies!

You Are So Loved

& I feel it. My sweet friend Albanery Marie has been such a lovely blessing in my life. Not long ago I prayed to God for new friendships that would build me up. Friendships that would encourage and inspire me. I am excited to say that he has been answering my prayer. I cannot recall how it started, but I am grateful for this girl and admire her love for Jesus.

My all time favorite gifts from her. The binder is from Target and they come in two sizes, I have the smaller one. It will be used for my bible study notes and references. The Journible (Proverbs book) is a journal in where one can hand write their notes for each verse of a specific chapter. I've been on Proverbs for a couple months now and plan to re-read it now that I have this amazing tool that will help me apply the word to my life.

I'm not one to project life anything. I don't even have time to eat dinner some days much less sit down and scrapbook. But I still love PL items and often purchase them and use them in my Filofax.

Till next time lovelies!

Our tired little hearts

Dear lovelies,

These past few months have been exhausting. I've let the some of my interest fall through the cracks and completely refocused on the important. God, my family, school, and work. It's a good thing too. Not that life at the moment is anywhere near stress free, but it made me miss what I love. This blog and my love for paper + crafts. Most would wonder why such a boring blog matters to a silly, overwhelmed Texas gal like me. You know what? I am not sure myself! But, I do know that I have great ideas for this little space of mine. And I hope that if you are reading this, you'll stick around to see it. Or if you are a future stranger looking back at some of my first posts, you will see that I did not start off perfect. I don't have Photoshop, I don't have the special design degrees others have.. I simply have pictures of the things that I love and a few words to say about them (and those few words are more often than not misspelled or weirdly worded).

Anyways, this is me. This is my family. And for those awesome ideas of mine.. pray that I find the time to sit down and work on them.

Yours truly,
